On Sunday 10th March, six members or our team and four of their friends ran the Vitality Big Half. Four of us ran a relay, while the others went for the full length. Thanks to this, Step Forward was able to fundraise over £1000! Here’s Matteo’s round up of the day:
The morning started with an uninviting gusty wind and fine drizzle. The team gathered in Tower Hill where the run set off. By the time we reached Canary Wharf the rain had stopped, but the wind got stronger causing us more than a few difficulties. The route then stretched back towards Tower Bridge through Bermondsey and ended in Greenwich. Despite the adverse weather conditions, all the runners made it to the end or to the changeover point (one of them went even further!).
“Step forward is made up of great people doing great work. I can’t think of a better group to be running around with” (C.)
We had a great time and have a few funny stories to tell about the day. We want to thank everyone who contributed with donations and support. A special thanks to friends and family who supported us during our training and came to cheer us on the day. Training and running together was a great team-building experience and helped us to coordinate outside the usual work setting.
The runners really enjoyed the day and are looking forward to repeat the experience next year! We are hoping to do this again and involve more people. Running is a great opportunity to improve our connections, look after our mental health and fundraise for Step Forward.
“I really enjoyed running this half marathon. Even the gale force gusts of wind didn’t put us off as we were laughing and chatting the whole way round!” (A.K.)
“Thank you so much Step Forward for organising a place for me in easily the most enjoyable running event have ever done so far. A really memorable day with a terrific running crew!”
(S.)
